Day 2 Race 4 of the Qualifying Round – Highlights
From the start, Torben and Almeida went straight for the buoy, tacking in front of everyone in the first upwind, eventually finishing 5th and jumping up 2 positions in the overall ranking.
Scheidt and Prada missed the first turn at the top buoy, losing 4 positions in this very close-knit race. An irrecoverable mistake faced with the skill of all these athletes and considering the excellent conditions on the water with the wind hitting up to 22 knots.
Mendelblatt and Fatih showed, like yesterday, that they like to start strong as they led the first race of the day all along and finished in first place.
A big battle for wind was seen live (on live.starsailors.com) with Loof and Ekstrom against Negri and Lambertenghi, battling for second place. Scott and Milne were given the first penalty of the day, yet managing to finish in 11th place.
During the second upwind leg, Loof and Ekstrom stayed their course on the right side as everyone went left, and went on their own on the return afterwards. A risky tactic that payed off and allowed them to secure the third place.
Small incident for Junior and Pritchard when the Bahamian fell in water, definitely hurting their chances as they finished last in this fourth race of the qualifying round.
